AVIF to PNG

Convert AVIF into a PNG that can be opened by common editing and document applications. The server processes the image in a private temporary workspace.

Common formats stay in your browser. Advanced conversions are deleted from the server immediately.

AVIF to PNG: prepare a transparent or editable raster copy

Use PNG when the receiving editor accepts it and you need a still raster copy without JPEG background flattening. Lossless PNG encoding does not recover information lost in AVIF, and a larger output is normal for many photographs.

How to convert an AVIF picture to PNG

  1. Select your AVIF image

Choose one file or drop it into the uploader. AVIF input and PNG output are preset; local server decoding handles the source.

  2. Choose the working dimensions

Keep the source dimensions by leaving resizing disabled. Set a smaller width or height only when fewer pixels suit your editing or publishing task.

  3. Review the downloaded copy

Compare input and output sizes, then open the PNG in the destination editor. Check color appearance and transparent edges before editing further.

How the PNG differs from the AVIF source

PropertyAVIF sourcePNG copy
Encoded detailMay already use lossy compression. No extra JPEG encoding, but lost source detail is not restored.
Transparent areasCan carry transparent pixels.Supported transparency is retained rather than filled like JPEG.
HDR and bit depthMay contain high-bit-depth or HDR information. The original bit depth and HDR properties are not guaranteed.
Image sequenceCan hold more than a still picture.Only the first image is exported; no animation is produced.

Choose the right workflow

Prepare an image for a PNG editor

Keep the AVIF as your source and use PNG for the editing session. Crop or resize that copy only after deciding what the final composition needs.

Crop the working copy

Choose a JPEG photo attachment

For an opaque photograph going to a JPEG-only form, the JPG route may be more suitable than a large PNG. It adds JPEG compression, so inspect detail.

PNG is too large to upload

A high-resolution photograph can be much larger in PNG. Resize to the required dimensions, or choose a destination-supported delivery format instead of assuming PNG is a compression tool.

Resize the PNG

PNG does not look identical in every app

Source color handling and HDR may differ from the ordinary raster output. Review in the intended editor; the conversion is not a promise to preserve all AVIF color properties.

Processing, privacy and the original file

The own-server ImageMagick converter reads one AVIF up to 30 MB, applies orientation and strips embedded metadata. It returns a separate PNG and removes the private temporary workspace after processing. Keep the original for archival use; this output is a still working copy.

Frequently asked questions

When should I choose PNG rather than JPG for AVIF?

Choose PNG for supported transparency or an editing workflow that needs PNG. Choose JPG for a JPEG-only photo destination, accepting JPEG compression and a solid background.

Does PNG preserve every AVIF property?

No. This is a still raster copy, not an archival conversion of HDR, original bit depth, animation or all embedded metadata. Retain the AVIF source.

Will this preserve every property of the source?

A PNG can be substantially larger than AVIF. This conversion does not promise to preserve AVIF HDR or its original bit depth, and does not export animation.

Is the source replaced or retained on the server?

Your original file is not modified. Browser conversions do not upload the image. Server conversions use temporary copies that are removed immediately after producing the response, including on a conversion error.
