Create a transparent cutout of a person or product

Separate a visible subject

Use automatic removal for people and product subjects. Inspect fine hair, translucent glass and low-contrast edges; the result may need manual refinement.

Allow the model to load

The first use downloads an approximately 183 MiB model. Processing uses your device CPU in this browser and needs a network connection for loading and substantial browser memory.

Refine and choose a background

Use Keep and Erase brushes to correct the mask, then check the edges. Download a transparent PNG or place the subject over a color or another image.

Resize the finished cutout · Convert the finished image

Prepare one photo for background removal

Choose one JPEG, PNG or WebP photo with a clearly visible person or product subject. Background removal runs in your browser.

Check file size and resolution

This editor accepts files up to 30 MB and images up to 24 megapixels. Resize a larger photo while retaining enough detail to inspect the subject edges.

Inspect thin details before softening edges

Compare Original and Result around hair, fingers, product outlines and gaps before deciding the subject cutout is ready.

Restore or erase small areas

Keep restores source pixels through the cutout mask; Erase hides them. Zoom in and reduce the brush size near narrow gaps or loose hair. Undo a stroke if it brings back unwanted background.

Use edge softness sparingly

Fine hair, translucent glass and reflections can remain difficult. Edge softness blurs the mask boundary; it cannot reconstruct hidden detail. Refine with a small brush and inspect against the intended background.

Choose the background before downloading

The download saves the edited cutout with your selected background, even while you are viewing Original.

Keep a transparent cutout when needed

Choose Transparent to save a PNG with the background removed. Color adds a solid backdrop to the PNG. Check which option is selected before saving a reusable subject cutout for another layout.

Check replacement background framing

A replacement background image is scaled to fill the image canvas and may be cropped at its edges. Check its framing and return to Transparent when you need the cutout without that backdrop.

Frequently asked questions

Which photos work best for background removal?

Portraits with a clearly visible person are useful starting points. Hair, clothing and low-contrast edges can be difficult; inspect the result and refine the mask when needed.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

These edits run on your device in the browser, so the image is not uploaded to our processing server. The browser reads the selected file and creates a new downloadable copy without overwriting the original. Available memory and format support depend on your browser; very large or unsupported files may need a different tool. This does not mean the website makes no network requests for its normal assets.
