Prepare a picture for cropping
Use PNG as an intermediate copy when you plan to crop the picture before choosing its final delivery format. Crop from the larger original-sized copy when you need room around the subject.

Convert a HEIC photo into PNG when you need a widely supported lossless raster format. Your original stays unchanged; the temporary server copy is deleted after processing.
Common formats stay in your browser. Advanced conversions are deleted from the server immediately.or drop images here
PNG is useful when an editor needs a conventional raster image and you want to avoid an additional JPEG encoding step. It preserves the pixels represented by the PNG output, but cannot recover detail already lost in the HEIC source.
Choose one HEIC photo from your device. The format selectors are preset to HEIC and PNG, so you do not need to configure the generic converter first.
Leave optional resizing disabled for a full-dimension copy. If your editor only needs a smaller picture, set the required width or height instead of creating an unnecessarily large PNG.
Compare the reported byte sizes and open the output in your editor. Check the orientation and color appearance before making the PNG your working copy.
| Property | HEIC source | PNG copy |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Compact encoded photo data. | Lossless PNG encoding of the decoded output; often a much larger file. |
| Editing | Requires an application that reads HEIC. | Can be used where the application accepts PNG. |
| Color information | May have HDR or a higher bit depth. | No promise to preserve the original HDR or bit depth. |
| Stored image collection | May contain more than one image. | Only the first image is exported, with orientation applied. |

Crop the PNGPNG is often the wrong final choice for a large photograph. If you need an ordinary photo attachment rather than a working file, compare a JPG conversion instead.
Compare HEIC to JPGThis is expected for many photographs. PNG uses a different compression method; lossless output does not mean a smaller download. Resize only when fewer pixels are acceptable.
Converting to PNG cannot recreate texture or sharpness missing from the HEIC. Avoid enlarging the image simply to increase its pixel count.
The own-server converter reads one HEIC up to 30 MB, applies its stored orientation and removes embedded metadata. It returns a separate PNG and deletes the temporary workspace after the request. This conversion is not an archival copy of every HEIC property; retain the original.
Read our file privacy policyPNG encodes the decoded image differently from compact HEIC photo compression. A much larger PNG can be normal, especially for a detailed photograph.
No. PNG avoids an additional JPEG encoding step, but cannot recreate information already lost in the source. It also does not guarantee preservation of HEIC HDR, bit depth or extra images.
PNG avoids an additional JPEG encoding step, but cannot restore detail already lost in HEIC compression. PNG files can be much larger than the HEIC source.
Your original file is not modified. Browser conversions do not upload the image. Server conversions use temporary copies that are removed immediately after producing the response, including on a conversion error.
