Actual size depends on images, fonts and whether the PDF is already optimized.

Reduce PDF size while keeping the result useful

Choose a compression level, review the estimate, and create a smaller PDF for sharing or upload.

01

Choose the compression level

High Quality keeps more image detail, Recommended balances quality and size, and Maximum Compression prioritizes a smaller file.

02

Review the estimated result first

The estimate shows the original size, selected mode, and expected saving before processing begins.

03

Download a separate compressed PDF

Your original file stays unchanged while LoveMyFiles creates a separate result for review and download.

Choose a useful balance between PDF size and clarity

A smaller file is useful only if the reader can still read it. LoveMyFiles provides three compression choices, and the best result depends on the source document.

Start with recommended compression

Upload your PDF and use the recommended setting as a starting point for ordinary screen reading. Download the result and inspect small text, tables and diagrams at normal reading size. Compare the result with the original, not just the reported saving.

Choose quality for detailed documents

Use the high-quality option when photographs, fine diagrams or printed output matter more than the smallest possible attachment. Maximum compression favors a smaller file and may reduce image detail. Neither setting promises a specific percentage reduction.

Understand a zero-saving result

An already optimized PDF may not become smaller. If the generated PDF is not smaller than the input, LoveMyFiles returns the original bytes instead of a larger replacement. A zero-saving result therefore does not necessarily mean processing failed.

Prepare an attachment without removing useful detail

Check what the recipient needs before repeatedly compressing the same file.

Remove pages that are not requested

An application packet may include duplicate scans or unrelated records. Extract the required pages first, then compress that excerpt. This reduces unnecessary sharing as well as giving the compressor less material to process.

Extract the required PDF pages

Compress the final combined document

When a submission needs several PDFs as one attachment, merge them in their reading order and compress the finished document. Check the final byte size against the recipient's upload limit before sending it.

Combine the source PDFs

Keep an untouched copy

Save the original separately before optimizing a document. Compression can rewrite PDF internals and affect images or interactive features. For digitally signed documents, retain the signed original and confirm what version the recipient accepts.

When your compressed PDF still exceeds a limit

There is no universal setting that makes every PDF fit an arbitrary upload size.

Try a stronger setting once

Run maximum compression from the original file if the first result is too large. Inspect scanned text and fine lines afterwards. Repeatedly compressing the compressed copy can lose detail without producing a worthwhile additional saving.

Check readability before delivery

Look at an image-heavy page, a page with the smallest text and any important chart. Open the download in a PDF reader. A valid PDF with a smaller file size can still be unsuitable if labels or numbers have become difficult to read.

Split only when the recipient allows it

If a complete document cannot fit one attachment, ask whether separate chapter files are acceptable. Splitting is an alternative to more aggressive compression, not a way to meet a requirement for one complete file.

Frequently asked questions about Compress PDF

Practical answers about using this tool, retrieving the result, and handling your files.

Which compression level should I choose?

Choose High Quality for clearer images, Recommended for a balanced result, or Maximum Compression when reducing size matters most.

Why did my PDF barely get smaller?

Some PDFs are already optimized or contain mostly text and vector content, so there may be little redundant data to remove. Image-heavy scans usually offer more room for size reduction than a short text document. A stronger setting can reduce image detail but cannot guarantee a particular upload limit. Compare the downloaded file size and inspect small text or diagrams before replacing your working copy.

Does compression change my original PDF?

No. LoveMyFiles creates a separate compressed result, so the original file on your device remains unchanged.

How are my uploaded files protected?

Files are stored outside the public web directory, and downloads require the matching account or guest job identity. Guest files expire within 5 minutes, free account files within 2 hours.
