Permanently cover sensitive areas in a PDF

Use redaction to mark sensitive content on selected pages and create a separate flattened result for review before sharing.

01

Select the content to redact

Choose a page, add a redaction box, and position it over the text or image area that should be covered.

02

Review every selected area

Redaction is a sensitive workflow. Check each box for coverage, page placement, and unintended content before creating the output.

03

Use the separate result

The result is created as a separate flattened PDF. Open it and confirm that the intended areas are covered before sharing or archiving it.

Remove the selected content from the shared PDF

Mark the sensitive areas on each page. LoveMyFiles replaces those areas in rendered page images before creating a new PDF.

Cover the full sensitive area

Place each redaction box over all the letters or image details you need removed, with a small margin around the edges. Check repeated names, reference numbers and information on other pages; selecting one occurrence does not find the rest automatically.

Redacted pixels replace the source area

The selected image pixels are changed to black before they are embedded in the output. The result does not contain the original page text layer, so the marked information is not retained as text beneath a removable drawing.

Understand what flattening changes

Redaction creates an image-based copy of every page, including pages where you did not draw a box.

Text and form interaction are lost

The downloaded pages contain rendered images rather than selectable source text or active form fields. Links, annotations and digital signatures are not preserved as interactive features. Review small text and line detail at a useful zoom level.

Page proportions and physical size differ

The output keeps the rendered page proportions, but rebuilds pages at a standard width. The physical dimensions can differ from the source, and the new image-based file can be larger. Check print settings if exact page measurements matter.

Check the redacted copy before sharing

Review the downloaded file itself, then share that copy rather than the original document.

Inspect every box and every page

Look for clipped characters near box edges, unmarked repeated details and information elsewhere on the page. Choose a filename that does not disclose private information. Keep the original in an appropriate private location if you still need it.

Apply opening protection when needed

You can add an opening password to the reviewed redacted copy if the recipient needs restricted access. A password controls opening the file; it does not identify additional content that should be redacted.
