Make scanned PDF text searchable and selectable

Use OCR to recognize text in page images, then choose a searchable PDF or a text extraction result and review the output.

01

Start with a clear scan

Straight pages, readable contrast, and consistent resolution give OCR a better chance of recognizing the document accurately.

02

Choose the output you need

Searchable PDF keeps the original page appearance with selectable text, while Extract text creates a TXT result for plain-text reuse.

03

Review recognition before relying on it

Tables, handwriting, unusual fonts, skewed pages, and low-resolution scans can create errors that should be checked before sharing or using the text.

Choose searchable PDF or extracted text

OCR reads words from scanned page images. LoveMyFiles currently offers English recognition with two output choices.

Search a scanned document

Choose searchable PDF to retain the page artwork and add recognized text. Use your PDF reader to search for a phrase. The text layer is not a reconstruction of the original document layout, so selection and reading order can differ from the scan.

Download plain text instead

Choose text output when you need the recognized words for notes or another editor. The TXT file separates page text with blank lines; it does not retain columns, images, table cells or the visual formatting of the PDF.

Get a clearer OCR result from your scan

The recognition engine can only work with the detail present in the uploaded pages.

Put sideways pages upright

Review the scan before running OCR. Rotate sideways pages and use a clearer original when letters are blurred, clipped or hidden by shadows. Enlarging a low-resolution scan does not restore missing letter detail.

Proofread names, numbers and symbols

Compare important values with the image, particularly invoice amounts, dates and account references. Similar characters such as O and 0 can be confused. Handwriting, stamps, unusual typefaces and non-English text need especially careful review.

Know when another PDF tool fits better

Recognition, editing and table extraction are different steps rather than interchangeable conversions.

Already selectable text?

Try selecting a sentence in your PDF reader. If it copies correctly, OCR may be unnecessary. For an editable document, use PDF to Word and check the reconstructed formatting against the original.

Need rows and columns?

Plain OCR text is not an Excel worksheet. PDF to Excel is a separate table-extraction tool; a recognized text layer alone does not guarantee accurate cells, column boundaries or numeric values.

Frequently asked questions about OCR PDF

Practical answers about using this tool, retrieving the result, and handling your files.

What does OCR do for a scanned PDF?

OCR recognizes text in page images so the result can contain selectable or extracted text. Recognition quality depends on scan clarity, layout, and language.

What output formats are available?

Choose Searchable PDF to keep the page appearance with selectable text, or Extract text to download recognized content as a TXT file.

Will OCR reproduce every word perfectly?

No. Low-resolution scans, unusual fonts, tables, handwriting, and complex layouts can produce recognition errors. Review the result before relying on it.

How are my uploaded files protected?

Files are stored outside the public web directory, and downloads require the matching account or guest job identity. Guest files expire within 5 minutes, free account files within 2 hours.
