Add clear page numbers to selected PDF pages

Preview page numbers, choose their position and style, and create a separate numbered PDF for sharing or reference.

01

Number a page range

Choose all pages or enter the pages that need numbering, then set the number to use for the first selected page.

02

Choose position and appearance

Place numbers at the top or bottom, align them left, center, or right, and adjust the font size and color.

03

Review the preview before export

The page thumbnails show the selected page numbers before the new PDF is created, helping you catch placement issues early.

Add a clear numbering sequence to a PDF

Choose the pages to label, a starting number and a position. LoveMyFiles adds visible numbers; it does not rewrite existing numbers printed on the source pages.

Select pages before setting the starting number

Use document page positions when specifying the selection. To leave a cover unnumbered, omit it from the selected pages. The starting number is applied to the first selected page, and the sequence advances only on selected pages.

Place the label where it remains readable

Choose a top or bottom position and a suitable size and color. Inspect the chosen area for existing headers or footnotes. The tool overlays numbers; it does not automatically create extra margin space around your content.

Number the final document, not unfinished parts

A numbering sequence is easier to maintain once the document's reading order is settled.

Merge chapters before numbering

Combine reports and appendices in their final order before adding a continuous numbering sequence. Check whether the cover and contents should be included. Existing chapter page numbers will still be visible unless you address them separately.

Merge chapters into one PDF

Resolve page order first

Remove duplicate pages and arrange the final sequence before adding labels. Moving a page after numbering moves its visible number with it, which can leave the sequence inconsistent.

Organize pages before numbering

Review references and existing page labels

Visible page numbers help navigation, but they do not update the rest of the document automatically.

Check the first and last numbered pages

Open the download and verify the starting value, sequence and placement. Also check a page with dense content. Numbers should not cover a chart, signature, footer or text that the reader needs.

Update contents and citations separately

Adding numbers does not regenerate a table of contents, bookmarks or internal references. If a report refers to old page positions, update its source document or provide clear guidance about the new sequence.
