Use PNG for an application that does not accept WebP. If you need to trim extra margins, crop the copy before placing it in a presentation or document.

Make a PNG copy of a WebP image while retaining supported transparent pixels. Use it for editing and apps that need PNG rather than WebP.

PNG can be a practical working format for a WebP logo, screenshot or transparent graphic. It avoids JPEG background flattening, but it is not a way to reverse an earlier lossy WebP encoding or export a WebP animation.
Select one .webp image or drop it into the file area. This page chooses PNG as the output and uses the shared image-conversion workspace.
Keep resizing off when the editor needs the current dimensions. Turn it on only for a known width or height requirement; shrinking affects the number of pixels in your working copy.
Download the result and check transparent edges in the app that will use it. A viewer may display transparency on a white or checkerboard background.
| Property | WebP source | PNG result |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent pixels | Can include an alpha channel. | Supported transparent pixels remain available in PNG. |
| Existing artifacts | A lossy WebP may already have blurred detail. | PNG does not restore that missing detail. |
| File size | Often efficient for web delivery. | Can be larger; compare the actual result instead of assuming savings. |
| Animation | WebP can store moving images. | The converter exports a still image, not an animated PNG. |

Crop the PNG copyWhen transparency is unnecessary and the receiving app requires JPEG, use WebP to JPG. Choose the background deliberately if the source has transparent areas.
Choose WebP to JPGA change to lossless PNG encoding can increase bytes substantially. Keep WebP for web delivery when the destination accepts it, or resize the PNG if smaller dimensions are suitable.
Check the saved PNG in an editor that shows an alpha checkerboard. If the source background was already opaque, conversion cannot turn it into a cutout.
WebP-to-PNG normally runs in your browser. If the required encoder is unavailable, the own-server fallback returns the converted bytes and deletes its temporary workspace. One file may be up to 30 MB. Keep the original WebP; this still-image conversion is not a preservation workflow for animations or embedded metadata.

No. Lossless PNG encoding stores the converted pixels but cannot restore detail missing from a lossy WebP source.
PNG does not regain detail lost by a lossy WebP source. The output is a still image, not an animated PNG, and can be larger than the original.
Your original file is not modified. Browser conversions do not upload the image. Server conversions use temporary copies that are removed immediately after producing the response, including on a conversion error.
